Statement (tr. L. Lehrman) to be read at June 19, 2008 NCRRC meeting:

Dear Friends,

Our now traditional commemoration, June 19th, of the martyrdom of Ethel and Julius, in one of the 27 French cities where a place is named in honor of their memory, will take place this year in Bagneux, in the district of Hauts de Seine, at the entrance to the park which bears their name. We are pleased to announce that dear Robert Meeropol will be present and will receive the official welcome from the municipality.

On that day, our thoughts shall also turn to you, who struggle within such a difficult context, for the victory of justice so much awaited. We salute your renewed determination, and wish you full success at your beautiful meeting of the 19th.

For our part, until the truth shall become known, we shall continue to explain to the French public:

that the accusation concerning the creation of a spy network on behalf of the Soviet Union is supported only by statements of the FBI and the CIA, and their interpreters--[University of California at] Irvine Professor Jon Wiener having shown [in a May 17, 2004 article in The Nation, cited in last year's letter] that, no more than anyone else, Allen Weinstein has no information from Soviet archives incriminating the Rosenbergs;

and that in any case, no one in the world supports the grotesque fable, regarding the theft of the American atomic "secret" by perfect incompetents, which alone permitted, by a deliberately inequitable trial, the condemning to death of the two heroes.
