Ethel Rosenberg in Electric Chair by Peter Saul, 1987.
"For the majority of Americans, the decade that spawned two folk demons called the Rosenbergs is irretrivably over. Now perhaps, the time for reappraisal is about to begin."
From "Invitation to an Inquest" by Walter and Miriam Schneir

CASE FOR THE DEFENSE
There were many violations of law that occurred before, during and after the trial. We shall summarize just a few of the many acts of governmental abuse of human rights and liberties which occurred in this case. Click on any of the links below to find out more details.

The Rosenbergs were sentenced for crimes that they were not tried for.

The prosecution used accomplice and perjured testimony.

There were no atomic "secrets" that David Greenglass could transmit.

Judge Kaufman contaminated the judicial process.

The McCarran Act prejudiced the jury process and the Rosenberg
Testimony.

Ethel's death sentence was a "lever" against Julius.

FBI documents show that the Supreme Court was compromised by the Justice Department.

The Rosenbergs were tried under the wrong law in order to facilitate the use of the death penalty.

APPEALS
The appeal process began on the day after sentencing, April 6, 1950 and continued right up to the day of the Rosenberg's execution, June 19, 1953.

[Tech note: if the one page summary does not fit on one page you will have to change the margins. This is easy to do. Click on "File", then go down to and click on "Page Setup". Type  ".5"  in each of the little margin boxes. Use the "Tab" key to move on from one box to the next (do all 4 boxes). Save your entry by clicking on the "OK" box below. If this does not do it, email Rob or Dan and we'll help you straighten things out.]
